In their practice briefing, Teresa Silva and Marzena Kordaczuk-Was, authors of Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism and Radicalisation, stress that addressing violent extremism has become a global priority. They emphasise the need for policies and interventions to be informed by robust scientific evidence from universities, research centres and practitioners to ensure effectiveness in tackling these challenges.
With limited resources, Silva and Kordaczuk advocate for evidence-based approaches anchored in sound research and theory. This strategy maximizes the chances of success, ensuring initiatives are efficient and capable of addressing the complex issues posed by violent extremism and radicalisation.
Teresa Silva is an associate professor of criminology at Mid Sweden University. Marzena Kordaczuk-Was is an expert advisor for law enforcement who is currently advising different national and international law enforcement bodies and serves as co-chair of the Police and Law Enforcement Group of the Radicalisation Awareness Network.
